Tracing the History of Disability in Eastern Europe

Eastern Europe is a relatively recent regional addition to the scholarship on disability, especially in the area of historical research and teaching. This site provides content, information, and resources for researchers, students, and anyone else interested in exploring the topic of disability in East Europe.

Eastern European Disability History is run by the Working Group on Disability Studies at Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies (ASEEES). The Working Group aims to build on critical disability studies across disciplines—anthropology, history, media studies, cultural studies, and literary criticism—and situate findings from other regions in dialogue with East Europe.

This website is dedicated to generating a community of interest in the history of disability in Eastern Europe. We welcome input from visitors and strive to make the format and content accessible to as many people as possible.
